What is fire, how does it work?

A fire is the result of a chemical reaction called combustion, which occurs when a fuel (such as wood, gasoline, or natural gas) reacts with oxygen in the air to produce heat, light, and a variety of products such as water and carbon dioxide.

For combustion to occur, three things are necessary: a fuel, oxygen, and an ignition source (such as a match, spark, or flame). When these three elements are present, the fuel begins to react with the oxygen, releasing energy in the form of heat and light. This energy is released in the form of flames, which are visible evidence of the chemical reaction taking place.

The rate at which the fuel reacts with the oxygen is called the "burning rate," and it depends on a variety of factors such as the type of fuel, the amount of oxygen present, and the temperature of the environment. When the burning rate is too slow, the fire will go out, while if the burning rate is too fast, the fire can become uncontrolled and dangerous.

It is important to note that not all fuels are flammable under all circumstances. Some fuels, such as wet wood or natural gas, will not burn unless they are vaporized first. In addition, some fuels require a higher ignition temperature to start burning, while others may ignite spontaneously at lower temperatures.

Knowing how fire works helps us understand why the service is needed, not only do we want to make sure the gas valve is working properly, we want to make sure we are addressing issues like firebox rusting due to the water vapor on start up; like a boat, if the hull is not cared for with a cleaning and repaint, it'll rust away!

It is recommended to have a professional inspect your gas fireplace at least once a year to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently. During the inspection, the technician will check the following parts of the gas fireplace:

It is important to have your gas fireplace inspected regularly to ensure that it is operating safely and efficiently. If any issues are detected during the inspection, the technician will recommend repairs or adjustments to fix the problem.
